We have all been in the situation, “how many Super Bowls has gone into overtime?” at some time. It is a good question and probably one that only sports fans would know the answer to. However, you can bet that every coach in the league will have a different answer. Most of the time it will be one or two, but you never really know how many times it has happened.

Now, how many times a team: goes into overtime and comes from behind in a game that they should have won by a score ants’ decision? Well, you probably have no idea either. There are too many variables involved to count. However, there is one that we can all agree on and that is; a team that is playing in overtime often wins.

Now, how many times a team went into overtime and came back from deficits to win? Again, we have a number of different variables here, but for the sake of this article, let’s just say one team out of four or five. Now, we could say that the overtime game was played last week against the Cowboys. I’m sure you’ve seen all of the highlights and all of the replays of how Dallas made it back in the fourth quarter.

Now if you take a look at what the Cowboys did in that overtime game: you would think that they would have been penalized for hooking onto the back end of a blocking spike. However, no one on the Dallas Cowboys was penalized for the spike, or for hooking or holding. So, how is this possible? It is because they were not playing according to the rules.

As an example: if it is second and goal with less than ten seconds remaining in regulation, and the Cowboys decide that they want to go for it on fourth down, then they should have been playing under the rules for overtime. The Dallas Cowboys is not football experts. So, when they decide to go for it on fourth down, which is their only option, they need to play it under the overtime rules. If the play had not been designed to require a time out, the Cowboys would have been given another chance at the end of the game to try again, and probably get the first down if they had it.

There are so many commercials during the Super Bowl that go into overtime as well: And of course, there are the commercial breaks. The trick is to figure out how many of those commercials actually tell a story, rather than just showing replays of the previous plays.

So, how many super bowl ads went into overtime have you ever watched?
